Brite Stars – Beauty and the Beast Jr.
Ages 8-11
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
Auditions begin Tuesday, 1/31 from 3:45pm-7:30pm. Please note that only boys will be asked to stay from 6:30pm-7:30pm on the first day. Parents should be prepared to stay to sign up for volunteer jobs on this day. Every family is required to sign up for 8 points worth of volunteering. There will be no Parent Meeting that day. All students should come prepared to sing one chorus of Be Our Guest. Please note that this is different than we have done at past Brite Stars auditions. All students should also refer to Music Theater International for all auditioning sides. This is an incredible resource to help prepare for this season’s audition.
Go to www.mtishows.com, click on Beauty and the Beast Jr., then click on Audition Central. Each character has a breakdown and songs to prepare.
Miss Holly will be using these exact auditioning sides during the audition process. We may not need to hear all the songs or read all the scenes, but any material used will come from this resource. The soundtrack to Beauty and the Beast is available on iTunes so you can begin preparing. Although we are doing Beauty and the Beast Jr., the music is very similar. Bring your script and a pencil. Please wear comfortable audition clothing and closed toed dancing shoes. Look for a more detailed email to follow. The audition process will continue with those asked to attend the callback on Monday, 2/6 from 4:00pm-7:30pm. We will continue callbacks during class time with the full cast on Tuesday, 2/7 from 4:00pm-6:00pm with specific students asked to stay until 7:30pm. You must be available all 3 audition dates to be considered for a role (1/31, 2/6 & 2/7).
Regular rehearsals begin Tuesday, 2/14 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm, with select cast members staying until 7:00pm (varies week to week). Please be advised that rehearsal attendance is mandatory as class meets only once a week and we have a full length production to stage. Ensemble will be included in the 6:00-7:00pm hours often.
Mandatory Tech Week begins Saturday, May 20th from 1:30pm-5:30pm at MTA and continues Monday-Thursday, May 22–25 from 4:00pm-7:30pm at the Rose Center Theater.
