Join our Brite Stars Cast (Ages 8 and Up), as we perform Disney’s The Jungle Book!
Adapted from Disney’s beloved animated film and the works of Rudyard Kipling, the “man cub” Mowgli, bounds through the jungle and learns what it means to be human.
The jungle is jumpin’ with a jazzy beat in Disney’s The Jungle Book. Specially adapted from the classic Disney animated film, Disney’s The Jungle Book features a host of colorful characters and your favorite songs from the movie.
Banished by the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan, a human boy named Mowgli and his panther friend, Bagheera, are on the run in the deepest parts of the jungle. On their journey, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle.
Disney’s The Jungle Book has a large, expandable ensemble and many strong, featured roles for good singers. Several roles, including Baloo and King Louie, are great for kids with strong comedic skills. The chorus can be expanded to include various animals, trees, plants, rocks and many other jungle inhabitants.
All students should come prepared to sing a song from the show, having reviewed all of the material. Plan on auditioning for more than one character. Students should refer to Music Theater International for all auditioning sides and details. This is an incredible resource to help prepare for this season’s audition.
Go to https://www.mtishows.com/disneys-the-jungle-book-kids, then click on Audition Central. Each character has a breakdown and songs to prepare. Miss Holly will be using these exact auditioning sides during the audition process. We may not need to hear all the songs or read all the scenes, but any material used will come from this resource.
The cast rehearses are every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday through production in late June/July. Monday rehearsals will be scheduled with small groups for scene study. Tuesdays will be full cast rehearsals,. Thursday’s will also be small groups and scene study as needed. A commitment for all days is needed if you wish to audition for a feature role. If you just want to be in the ensemble – then Tuesday’s will be the commitment day. Given where we are today with the state of COVID-19, things will be very fluid with regards to show dates. We will combine Zoom rehearsals with live rehearsals in the event we are unable to meet in person. Smaller groups will meet on Zoom and Live. We will keep the rehearsals fluid with specifics to be given one week before as we move through the season.
