Brite Stars – Annie, Jr
Ages 8-11
The irrepressible comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world's best-loved, award-winning musicals.
Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award-winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie JR. features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
There are plenty of parts to go around, with leading roles for both boys and girls. Leading roles include orphans, servants, villains and soloists. Annie JR. is ideal for featuring all of our MTA Brite Stars.
Auditions begin Tuesday, 9/12 from 3:45pm-8:00pm. There will be a mandatory Parent Meeting that day. Parents should be prepared to sign up for volunteer jobs on this day. Every family is required to sign up for 8 points worth of volunteering.
All students should come prepared to sing a song from the show. Students should refer to Music Theater International for all auditioning sides. This is an incredible resource to help prepare for this season’s audition.
Go to www.mtishows.com/annie-jr, then click on Audition Central. Each character has a breakdown and songs to prepare.
Miss Holly will be using these exact auditioning sides during the audition process. We may not need to hear all the songs or read all the scenes, but any material used will come from this resource. The soundtrack to Annie is available on iTunes so you can begin preparing. Although we are doing Annie Jr., the music is very similar. Bring your script and a pencil. Please wear comfortable audition clothing and closed toed dancing shoes. Look for a more detailed email to follow. The audition process will continue with those asked to attend the callback on Thursday, 9/14 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. We may continue callbacks during class time with the full cast on Tuesday, 9/19 from 4:00pm-6:00pm with specific students asked to stay until 7:30pm. You must be available all 3 audition dates to be considered for a role (9/12, 9/14 & 9/19).
Students are also encouraged to register and attend one of the Auditioning Workshops.
Regular rehearsals begin Tuesday, 9/19 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm, with select cast members staying until 7:00pm (varies week to week). Please be advised that rehearsal attendance is mandatory as class meets only once a week and we have a full length production to stage. Ensemble will be included in the 6:00-7:00pm hours often. Those auditioning for leading roles please note there will be a rehearsal the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. In addition, all those auditioning for leading roles must commit to Thursday rehearsals, beginning November 30th, through showtime (excluding December 28th).
Mandatory Tech Week begins Saturday, January 13th from 1:30pm-5:30pm at MTA and continues Monday-Thursday, January 15–18 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the Rose Center Theater.
